Home Learning for Year 1

Dear Year One Children,

We hope that you are all well and are enjoying some time at home with your families. This is just a little note to check that you are keeping yourselves out of trouble, getting plenty of rest but most importantly, that you are HAPPY! We understand that this time will be very confusing and uncertain, so please remember that even though we have set you work to be getting on with at home, please do not forget the most important things: be creative, maintaining a love of reading, spending time with your loved ones and having time for yourself.

Continuing your education is extremely important but you must also use this time to be mindful and make the most of your time. Maybe you could spend time outside or build something with Lego or bricks. Maybe you could draw some pictures or enjoy baking or cooking with grown-ups; something that will make you happy during your time away from school.

Miss Smith will be baking some cakes once she can find some eggs in the shops! Miss Roome will be keeping a diary of her days to share with children when we return to school and Mrs Singh will be spending lots of quality time with her family. Whatever you get up to, write it down, take photos or draw a picture to show us – we would love to see them when we are back at school!

We are thinking about every single one of you every day, hoping that you are well and that you are happy! We also hope that you are finding your home learning good fun and finding out lots and lots of new things. Keep being the superstars you are and making your grown-ups smile like you make us smile each day at school! Here are some of our top tips for home learning:

1.    Brain-breaks! If you are struggling, take a brain-break and come back to it later.

2.    Be curious! If you find yourself ‘bored’, think: what do I really want to learn about? And do some research!

3.    Drink plenty! Your brain is going to be working super-hard and will need lots of energy.

4.    Exercise and keep active! Maybe you could try Joe Wicks or see how many star jumps you can do?

5.    Relax! This can be a very challenging time for you and your grown-ups, so make sure you have some downtime.

See you all soon! From, Miss Roome, Miss Smith and Mrs Singh
